I live in a lake community with a private road and 29 houses in the community. Currently we pay about $3360.00 a year for dumpster service for all the houses. The fee plan the council plans to use will be twice the cost of what we are paying now. The town plans curb-side pickup for all houses. Our road is dirt and almost impassable for large vehicles in the winter due to hills, ice and snow that cover the road for the season. The town currently picks up the recyclables and during the harsh winters we can go months before they can get the truck up here to remove them.
Since we are a private road the town may decide-to have us leave it at the beginning of the private road (so much for the curbside pickup that everyone else enjoys and pays for). I can see the joy in the neighbor's eyes now as he watches as 30 some garbage cans line up in front of his house every week with some being left there for weeks at a time. Half our residents are not full-time residents and are only here on weekends. So Sunday night as they leave for home they will put out their garbage cans and they will be at the end of the road until the pickup and will remain there until the resident returns, sometimes months later. Let’s not forget the bears that will, tare through the garbage while it sits there waiting for a pickup for perhaps days.
Trash will be blowing through the neighborhood, stuck~m trees and bushes and attract vermin of all types.
While this garbage scheme works well for some there are a significant number of houses in
