To the Editor:
A Sparta Christmas Poem
‘Twas the week before Christmas and all through the town
The people were stirring, there was many a frown
The petitions were placed at the stores with care
In hope that the folks would sign them there
The council majority were so happy they squealed
The gift they wished was a contract - signed and sealed
But Jesse and his crew were not settling in
They took their petitions, they knew they could win
When out on the lawn of the new Town Hall, the noise thundered
The petitions were in with signatures - not five but 14 hundred
The blush on the faces of the mayor and friends
Gave the glow of “what have I done” - “can we make amends”
They looked on the lawn for visions of sweet sugar plums
What they saw was a Blue Diamond truck with eight garbage drums
With a little old driver so lively and quick
They thought for a moment this must be a trick
He yelled “now Speckhardt, now Brady, now Henry and Manny”
Climb on this truck, I can save your fanny
Up to Route 15 we’ll go, all the way to the mall
Now dash away, dash away, dash away all -----Please
