Grievances for Sparta mayor and council

December 13, 2007

To the Editor

Dear Mayor Spekhardt - It’s an outrage!!

We were under the impression that the United States was a free country. Surely in a country where residents are allowed to elect government officials, bear arms, and have religious freedom, we should have a choice about garbage disposal.

“I have an obligation to look at what’s best for the entire town” was your comment before the council’s vote on Saturday. We believe that your obligation was to listen to ALL the residents of this town by giving them the CHOICE to OPT OUT or CHOOSE our garbage disposal method.

Was it your OBLIGATION to make the residents subside their neighbor’s garbage pickup? If the neighbor puts out 10 bags of garbage and we choose to use the Sussex Municipal Garbage Dump (at a minimal cost to us), you’ve now made it our OBLIGATION to pay for the neighbor’s garbage pick up.

Since you have taken away our freedom of choice, the residents of Sparta now have an obligation to see that you, Brian Brady, and Manny Goldberg, are NOT RE-ELECTED.

It’s not too late to give the residents FREEDOM OF CHOICE. Let us choose our garbage disposal method.

Thank you.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rothe, Sparta
